I slipped it in, made my bends and then melted the solder out with a heatgun. That time it slipped in the tube with a little effort.

First pass wasn't enough, so I gave the vise a little more torque on the handle to squeeze the block and also the die a little smaller and pulled it through again. Added some grease to the die and solder, then pulled it through using some soft jaw pliers to grip it. I slipped the block with the die in my bench vise, rolled the end of a length of solder between two pieces of metal to reduce it's diameter enough to fit through the die. I had a roll that was two to three thou to large to fit the tube ID, so I took an inch long piece of the tube, flared one end slightly with a lathe center to make a drawing die and drilled a hole in a block of wood to fit the die's OD. I bent some 3/16 using 50/50 lead solder. Thinking about it, I do have some syringes that might work for that.Īny suggestions? everything I can find online looks as though people are using "huge" tube compared to what I'm trying. The issues I had with it was that the metal got sucked up into the fuel line, and I noticed bubbles in it as well. I don't have any kind of turkey baster or anything like that I could use instead, but if people think it will work, I will go buy something. I used some small silicone fuel tube and a small vacuum pump. I'm fairly certain that I'm getting air bubbles inside the tube and not getting a good fill. I then made a little aluminum funnel and heated it with the tube and tried pouring in the metal. I have tried heating the tube and feeding in small pellets of woods metal, but that takes forever and makes a bit of a mess beside the tube where i drop some that doesn't make it completely into the tube. I am also annealing the tube before filling.

I am aware of all the health issues with cadmium and lead in it, so I'm hoping we can keep this mostly about how to use it. It needs fairly tight radius bends, so I thought i would give the woods metal a try. Hi all, i am trying to bend some 5/32" brass tube for an engine model I'm building.
